healing through mindfulness
Deconstructing oneself is a practice. In the past 8 years I have developed spiritually by detaching from who I was. I am not my environmental conditioning. I have stripped myself away.
This is what remains, an echo of the past: hyper vigilant, tormented by pain, fractured by despair, and craving violence. These parts are stubborn. There roots are deep. They are forged in trauma and fed by the memories of their triumphs.
Each day, submit to your discipline or suffer. For this rule there is no compromise. Discipline was given to me as a gift from the grand design. There is no redemption, no enlightenment. Serve your best self or ruminate in your echos.
I hate this artwork. I hate it so much its comical. It's the perfect self-portrait.
The Saguaro is designed as a trophy for ASU Center for Correctional Solutions.
It is intended to be an award given by CCS to community members who affect prison reform. The award will be available to correctional employees, academics of criminal justice, incarcerated peer mentors and volunteers.
The design is intended to invoke pride and dedication to a vision of the future. It is intended to represent Arizona's iconic phoenix and majestic Saguaro cactus. The design pays homage to CCS and the incremental development they facilitate.
Thank you

The beginning of a self-portrait, each section articulated by chain. Currently 11 ft mark my 11yr incarceration. Eventually the links will each be a day. Free will is an illusion. I am Sisyphus. Don't forget to drag the past behind you as you suffer. When complete the sculpture will be lit on fire, Don't forget to move forward Sisyphus.
I used to be a different human. I apologize. Let him be a reminder that we all can change.
These sculptures are the first three of an intended 22-piece installation. The 22 Folded American Flags represent the 22 veterans our nation loses to suicide each day. Each flag will be unique to highlight the individuality of the veterans we lose. The installation will serve to open conversations about Post Traumatic Stress and spread awareness for organizations that provide veteran resources. On Memorial Day the artist will offer GIF NFT’s of the displayed sculptures to raise money for https://www.hightechforce.com/ , a startup company dedicated to retraining veterans while maintaining a team-based structure.
During his time in incarceration Bruce focused on the process of creating artwork as a form of flow state meditation. He served as a peer educator and mentor helping himself and others become there best selves. He continues his dedication to mindfulness through the mediums of sculpture, painting and writing.
